Tomorrow is the night. Klitchko is trying to unify the heavyweight title, and he’s got a serious competitor in his way. His name is Sultan Ibragimov, and I cannot wait until this fight. Sure, the Pavlik/Taylor fight last weekend was okay. But this one is huge.
Antonio Cochero Diaz v Yan Barthelemy
This, my friends, is a jobber fight. I believe Teddy Atlas put it best when he said “Diaz is here primarily as someone that was available to fight.” Barthelemy was looking for a little 6 round practice, and that’s exactly what he got.
Another Atlas-ism:
Diaz is looking not to be hit, which is not a bad idea.
Barthelemy had a 5th round knockdown and won unanimously in this yawner.

Johnnie Edwards vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa
The first fight on tonight’s card was Johnnie Edwards (28 years old) 13-1-1 7 KO vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa (8-0-0) 7 KO in a scheduled 10 round featherweight fight.
Backstory
Edwards- A US Marine who, when he was 11, lost his little brother in a drowning accident.
Gamboa- Cuban defector and 2004 olympic gold medalist who sold his gold medal to pay for his daughter’s birthday party.
The fight
Round One- Gamboa comes out swinging hard and knocks Edwards down in 30 seconds, then, at 1:30 left in the fight, knocks Edwards out with a hard left hook.
What’s Next
Looks like Edwards blew out his knee when he went down for good. Gamboa is an up and comer, and needs to be watched. The guy’s awesome.
Welcome to I Like Boxing.
It’s a blizzard out there tonight in Boston, and I’m not going anywhere. So, like every Friday night, I’m watching Friday Night Fights. So, while watching, I decided I’d set up a blog. I love watching boxing, and I’m always taking notes (literally) on the matches I watch, so why not just do it on a free blog? Good question. So here’s that.
